Western Collegiate Hockey Association chooses Winner’s Award Group for Championship Trophy

The Minnesota Gophers Women’s Hockey team are shown here with the custom trophy after winning the 2018 Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Championship.

As you can see from the photos, the WCHA contracted Winner’s Award Group to design and produce three different size trophies. One is a perpetual that shows each year’s champion. Another size is given to the winning team to bring back to their school’s display case.

The home of a record 16 national championships, the Women’s League of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) now has League postseason hardware to match its standing as the country’s premier conference, thanks to the generosity and support of John Buccigross and Twin Cities-based apparel company GoodWood Hockey.

Buccigross, the longtime ESPN anchor and renowned benefactor of hockey at all levels, provided – through his #bucciovertimechallenge and #cawlidgehawkey initiative – the funds for a new, custom-designed, perpetual WCHA Final Faceoff championship trophy, to be awarded to the winner of the League’s annual postseason tournament. The new trophy, which debuted at the 2018 WCHA Final Faceoff, was produced by Winners Award Group, stands two-and-a-half feet high and is made of thick brushed aluminum with a multi-tiered satin black wood base that accommodates the acid-etched winning university name on the base plates. In addition to this trophy, which the championship team will keep on campus for one year, Buccigross’ donation will also cover several years’ worth of replica trophies for the winning school to proudly display.
